Biography

Mohammad Abdul Mabud is a senior Bangladeshi civil servant and high-ranking police executive who serves as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Rangpur Range. Defined by academic distinction, professional resilience, and an unwavering commitment to public service, his life reflects a steady pursuit of integrity through decades of political and institutional changes.

Early Life and Ancestral Roots

Mohammad Abdul Mabud was born on January 1, 1973, into a respected Muslim family in Jamalpur village, situated in the Senbagh sub-district of Noakhali, Bangladesh. He was raised in an environment that prioritized learning, public duty, and religious values.

His family background holds a legacy of community leadership and state service. His father, the late Abdul Wadud, was a recognized freedom fighter in Bangladesh's Liberation War. Both his paternal and maternal grandfathers—late Abdul Majid Pandit and Maulana Kazi AKM Ruhul Amin—were prominent figures in Noakhali. Furthermore, his immediate and extended family members hold high positions across Bangladesh's government, judiciary, military, and academic sectors, including a university professor, a Supreme Court advocate, and a Major General.

Academic Excellence

From his early years, he stood out for his academic aptitude, consistently achieving top results in national examinations:

He secured 1st place in the Senbagh examination center during his 1988 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams. He later passed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams with first-class marks from Chaumuhani Government S. A. College. He attended the University of Dhaka, earning both his Bachelor’s (Honours) and Master’s degrees with distinction from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Expanding his expertise into administration, he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Continuing his commitment to lifelong learning, he pursued PhD research at Jahangirnagar University.

Public Service and Career

Mohammed Abdul Mabud began his career as an officer at Sonali Bank Limited. Driven by a desire to serve the nation directly, he sat for the 20th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination, passing with distinction to join the Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Recognized early on for his administrative ability, Mabud was promoted to Additional Superintendent of Police (Additional SP) in record time. However, despite nearly two decades of service, his career experienced prolonged stagnation due to political discrimination under the ruling Awami League administration, during which he was routinely bypassed for promotion. During the historic July–August 2024 student-led mass uprising in Bangladesh, he was among the civil servants who refused directives to use force against peaceful civilian protesters. Following the movement, his principled stance was formally recognized. Promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG), he was tasked with overseeing law enforcement across the Rangpur region, focusing on human rights-centered policing, anti-drug operations, and restoring public trust.

International Peacekeeping and Global Exposure

In addition to his national career, Mabud has served the international community through four separate United Nations Peacekeeping Missions. His overseas deployments and official travel have taken him across North America, Europe, and the Middle East—including the United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, India, and the Dominican Republic.

Social Work and Community Leadership

Outside of uniform, Mohammed Abdul Mabud remains deeply connected to public welfare and community development:

He serves as the Executive Director of Community Bank Bangladesh, Vice-President of the Bangladesh Police Service Association, and the elected General Secretary of the century-old Noakhali District Association. To preserve his family's legacy of service, he founded the Wadud Memorial Public Library and the Kohinoor Wadud Technical Madrasa. He also finances educational scholarships for underprivileged students and funds local youth employment initiatives.

Personal Life

Mohammad Abdul Mabud is married to a fellow graduate of the University of Dhaka, who serves as a Deputy General Manager (DGM) in the banking sector. Together, they have four children. Prioritizing higher education for the next generation, one of their children is pursuing legal studies in London to become a barrister, while another attends Auckland University in New Zealand on an academic scholarship.
